Year in Review Holiday Card 2

Since I can only post up to 5 image previews in my etsy shop, I wanted to share some alternate designs here on the blog. One thing that I love about my clients is their ideas and thoughts to make the cards their own.

Here is the original design.

Variation 1 
Used a color background.
Spots for information about the husband and wife
Space for information about their home
Three spots for brief information on the three kids.

Variation 2
Colors: Black, Red, & Grey. 
World map in the center
Individual highlights
2014 Summary in Numbers

Variation 3
Colors: Black, Grey, Mint Green
Icons with just names and ages (for pets as well!). 
Travel map includes just the southwest states
Bullet highlights.

Variation 4
Colors: Black & Red
Spread the info on top for Mom & Dad
Small section for child
State section
Highlights paragraph

Variation 5
Colors: Red, Black & Gray
Kept the "About Us" info short and sweet
Extended the kids' highlights to the bottom, and shortened the Family highlights.

Variation 6
Colors: Silver & Navy
Larger area on top for "About Us"
Home state and pet to the right of the map.
Space for one child. 
Paragraph of highlights.

Variation 7
Colors: Red & Gold. 
Stand out area for their "Big Announcement," section filled with red, with white type and icons.

Bullet point highlights instead of a paragraph

Variation 8
Colors: Red, Black & Gray
Family of three icon 
Pet & State at the top.
Three About Us sections at the bottom
Family Highlights to the right of the map.

Variation 9
Colors: Red, Black & Gray
Kept the "About Us" info short and sweet
Spots for 5 family members
Extended the kids' highlights to the bottom
Shortened the Family highlights to add pet


Variation10
Colors: Gray & Light Gold
Kept all the information short and sweet.
Added their two pets and a cute description of both of them.

Larger "About Us" sections for the kids
Small pet section to split up the kids
Numbers in Review Highlights

These are so versatile, and can be used for Year in Review cards, whether you get them out before Christmas, or after the New Year!

Tip #1: Bleed & Trim

What is bleed and trim, and why is it important? (If you want to skip all the words to the end for the actual tip, that's just fine too!) One of the biggest issues I have run into over the past 2 years of having my Etsy Shop, is not knowing before I start designing what the print guidelines will be. It can be pretty frustrating on both ends to go and upload to the digital file to the printer, only to learn that they require bleed, or some other special guideline! Now you may hear this often, but not know what it is. In fact, I didn't know what it was for a long time. So here is a good definition of what it is: Bleed is the industry term for any color or image that goes right to the edge of the paper. What actually happens is that the picture or other graphic extends 1/8" (.125") beyond the edge of the page and that excess image or color is then cut off as a part of the bindery or finishing process.
